The Greatest Showman – “A musical extravaganza for the eyes and ears!”
In the school holidays we love to hit the cinema to escape from the crazy Perth heat and to relieve some school holiday boredom. So today we grabbed some friends and it was Loulou ( Miss 14) and Mo’s (Miss 11) turn to pick the movie and their movie choice was The Greatest Showman.
As is common when the kids pick the movie, I have no idea of the plot or what to expect and wow let me tell you, whatever your expectations of the Greatest Showman, you will be absolutely blown away!
A movie loosely based on life of P T Barnum and the formation of the Barnum and Bailey Circus. The movie was directed by Michael Gracey, and written by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon.
You will follow Barnum from a young boy with dreams of grandeur and excitement throughout his life until the eventual creation of the Barnum & Bailey circus which traveled through America in 1919. Prepare to be dazzled by the lives of characters who starred in the Greatest Show On Earth!
Prepare to be dazzled by the most amazing dancing, singing and curiosities!
The star of this movie is undoubtedly the amazingly talented Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables, Wolverine) , playing PT Barnum. This could easily be one of his finest performances, he was impeccable as the charismatic dreamer.
Supported by Michelle Williams (Dawson’s Creek, Brokeback Mountain) as his devoted wife, Michelle plays a small but still impressive role.
Zac Efron (High School Musical, The Lucky One …) plays Philip Carlyle and as a huge fan, I loved seeing him return to the musical genre. My only gripe with his performance would be that I was unconvinced with his on screen romance with Zendaya who stars as Anne Wheeler. A complete lack of on screen chemistry.
While the beautiful Zendaya offered a good performance, she was definitely overshadowed by the Bearded Lady aka Keala Settle who’s on stage presence was mesmerizing.
It would take far too long to mention each actor individually but the dancers, the actors and the singers who all collaborated to make this movie are one amazingly talented bunch! Bravo!!
DEFINITELY! – 5 out 5
“I recommend that everyone heads to the movies to see this wonderful film. You will be delighted, entertained and you won’t be able to take your eyes off the screen!” – Alli
“This film was amazing, it had a really good story line and my favourite characters were the Albino curiosity and the Bearded Lady” – Mo
“I really liked the way that the movie showed the story from different peoples views as it allowed you to see what everyone was feeling about the show – not just the show creators point of you. I really liked the variety of curiosities that were in the circus and I think there were some amazing actors” – Loulou
