Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them… will it live up to Harry Potter?
Having not read the newest novel by JK Rowling, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, I found myself at the cinema today with no idea of the story line to this movie. All I knew was that it was a spin off, prequel to the Harry Potter novels and that due to this, it had a lot to live up to. Well I can guarantee that Fantastic Beasts never had to worry, it more than lived up to the expectations.
JK Rowling has waved her wand and yet again produced an absolute masterpiece that will delight fans of the amazing successful Harry Potter series and entice a whole new generation of fans to follow this next book series. This movie definitely seems to be aimed at a more adult movie audience but it still has all the same magic and wonder (in fact maybe more) that has become synonymous with the Harry Potter films.
Without giving too much away, the movie is set in 1926 when a wizard, Newt Scamander arrives in New York with a suitcase of mystical creatures. After one of his fantastic beasts escapes, he finds himself on a journey to recover his lost beasts and becomes embroiled in a battle against the dark and destructive force of an Obscurus.
The cast for this movie was just astounding. The formidable Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander was never going to disappoint viewers. Percival Graves (Colin Farrell) asks Eddie in the movie, “what is it exactly that makes Albus Dumbeldore love you so much?” While I cant answer that, I can answer why we all seem to love Eddie – for me he is the epitome of the true English Gent, with his unique and somewhat quirky good looks, his distinctive voice and his amazing skills – he really is one of the best British actors we have seen.
The movie is full of amazing characters and you will spend hours trying to place actors and actresses faces while you are watching but personally I was a little in love with the adorable Queenie Goldstein (Tina’s sister) played by Alison Sodul and the non maj (muggle) Jacob played by Don Fogler. However for those of you who prefer the darker characters, the acting of Samantha Morton and Ezra Miller will astound you.
And of course how could I forget about the Fantastic Beasts! Oh my goodness you are in for visual treat with all of the animals that JK Rowling has created. Her imagination seems to know no bounds. The only thing I found was that I couldn’t quite hear some of the names of the creatures so if like me you want to know more about the creatures – check this out – https://www.inverse.com/article/24059-list-of-beasts-for-fantastic-beasts
10/10 – It was magical, delightful and whimsical all in one movie. My movie date and I, found ourselves giggling, teary eyed and sighing with joy in equal measures. Oh my goodness I cannot wait for the next one.
