I know I’ve already blogged this week but I feel like I have to say something after waking up to the news that the amazing Gene Wilder has passed away earlier on in the month. I’m a wee bit heart broken.
I wish I could write some witty summary of this amazing actor, but to be completely honest I have only seen him in probably two movies, “see no evil, hear no evil” and then ”Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory”.
This movie just reminds me of my childhood and even now as an adult, I love it just as much. The original version of the movie manages to capture all the magic of the Roald Dahl book and as I watch it I am just caught up in magical world of Willy and his Oompa Loompas.
Gene you ruined the 2005 Charlie and The Chocolate Factory for me. How on earth could Johnny Depp compete with your version of Willy Wonka. Wilder’s Wonka is just the perfect blend of quirky, endearing and lovable and Johnny just lacked a bit of a the magical “Je ne sais quoi”.
I just wanted to say thank you to Gene for making my childhood so special, and that magic has been passed down to Mo who just loves this movie as much as I do. Strangely enough, I just recorded this movie last week and added it to the planner so this afternoon we are going to snuggle up on the sofa and once again will be drawn in to the magical world on Willy Wonka. RIP you amazing actor and thank you for making my childhood so special.
