Movie Review – Hunt for the Wilderpeople

movie review

I am aware that I am far from a film critic but  Mo and I have just been to the cinema to watch “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” and I wanted to share my movie review with you.

Having seen the trailer for this movie, I was expecting a few laughs but boy was I mistaken! A few laughs…. I (and the rest of the cinema) laughed from the very beginning right up to the end.  Well actually I wasn’t really laughing at the end, more like sighing in happiness but you get the picture.

The movie script was just “majestic” – it was heart warming, hilarious and just amazingly wonderful.  The characters were beyond talented- who could resist the warmness of  Aunt Bella (Rima Te Wiata), be blown away by the acting of Ricky (Julian Dennison) and the lovable but grumpy Uncle Hec (the Sam Neill).  While the main actors were phenomenal, cudos  to the extremely talented supporting cast – all of whom just add more hilarity and charm to this movie.

As for the scenery, I’m not sure I have the words to adequately express how picturesque this country is.  I have always hankered after a trip to New Zealand but now I truly want to plan a trip to this beautiful and tranquil country.  I’d like to think it would be going bush but maybe that is  a bit too drastic for me.  Whatever form my future trip will take I expect to be blown away.

The writer and director Taika Waititi, should be applauded on producing a piece of cinematography excellence,  this movie will be added to our home collection as one of those must see movies that just leaves you full of warmth and tingles after watching it.

Rotten Tomatoes rated it 8.1/10 but seriously this movie is more like 10/10.  Treat yourself to a couple of hours of old fashioned goodness and you will not be disappointed.
